Bush Resumes Slide: Before 9/11 he was losing about 1% per month, after 9/11 about 2% per month, and until Saddam was captured in December, he was losing nearly 3% per month. After his bounce from Saddam he has lost about 6%, but gained back 2% from May through August. Typically the convention should give him 8% of which half will be lost before the election--but events are rarely typical.

Graphs use polling data from Gallup, Newsweek, CBS, Pew, Fox and Ipsos-Reid/Cook. Combined with advanced statistics, this produces results for every day that are as accurate as a poll with 1500-3000 respondents. Gallup uses only 1000. Graph is only accurate to about 1.5%, so small fluctuations are not meaningful.
